Ozark is good, but it is still a long way off of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul or even Fargo. Bateman’s Marty Byrde never really transforms or at least in Season 1 of which I’m nearly done. While he’s doing illegal stuff, it’s out of survival and not money for his family. Walter White was a true anti-hero and perhaps the most enigmatic fictional crime character of our time — more than Al Pachino’s Scarface or Brando’s Don Coreleone. When such a time occurs that Marty Bryde begins to embrace his new life and willing to sacrifice his morals while still being likeable he can start to take his place next to Walter White. We’ll have to see if Bateman and Dubuque have the chops.
