There are thousands of reasonably priced homes available across the nation. There are also thousands of well-paying tech and law jobs across the nation.
All of these options are open and available to you, yet you find it prudent to complain about how you can’t afford to “raise a family” in one of the most expensive cities in the country — In an area that amounts to a tiny spec in a massive ocean of available and affordable housing.
You expect the entire housing market to adjust to your desires rather than recognize that there are economic laws at play here — Laws that “City Council” and “Community Organization” can’t magically halt.
Home prices in an area (any area) will continue to rise as long as there are people willing to pay. And guess what? You became part of that problem when you agreed to pay $6,000.00+ per month for rent!
Think about that for a second:
You complain about landlords making exorbitant amounts of money while you simultaneously write checks to one for $6,000.00 every month. You’re literally giving your money to these people then saying, “Golly! Why can’t city council do something about this?!!”
My wife and I most likely make a fraction of what you and your husband make. Yet, we own a 2,500 square foot home (without roommates) and just purchased a vacation property. We can do all this because we recognized a decade ago that living and working in California is one of the worst financial decisions anyone could make.
Save yourself some angst and frustration and get on with your life *outside* of California. And if you simply cannot imagine yourself being happy in any other place but the most expensive place in the country, then I am afraid you are the only person standing in the way of your own prosperity. Not the “jet-setting executives” and not the evil rich people… Just you.
