Hanson Got Screwed

Yup. We’re talking about this.

You read that correctly. Hanson. As in the Hanson Brothers. As in my fourth grade obsession. As in those guys you heard babble-singing incessant nonsense on the radio in the 90's.

I think one could make the case that while “MMMBop” rocketed Hanson to the top of the charts, it also cemented them as young, cheesy pop artists for the average listener. The issue is that these guys actually make some soulful, amazing stuff. They made some of it back in the MMMBop days, and they make even more now.

I don’t care if that song annoyed you 10 years ago. Me too. But that’s because corporations in the 90's played it every waking second of our lives. Do you think these cool mofo’s like hearing about that song all the time? Nope.

Even if the new version is annoying you right now, blend like that is hard to come by. It is. I’m just pointing out that these guys get too little credit for their new stuff, and a little too much credit for “MMMBop”.

…and if we’re being honest (or you don’t understand generalizations), I’m not just talking about Hanson, here.

…and here’s another one, just to get MMMbop out of your head (good luck):
