Math: The Election’s Over. Can We Please Move On?

Just saying from a British perspective. We recently had a general election which the pollsters got completely wrong. The result was a clear win by the Conservatives, even though the polls showed no clear winner. This might have been explained by the conservatives being painted as cruel, nasty, unenlightened and selfish, and so people kept their opinions secret until the poll booth.

There was then the EU referendum (‘Brexit’). Leave voters were painted as idiots, unenlightened and selfish. Again, their opinions were ignored until results day. Post-mortem examinations showed the Brexit was more popular in poorer areas, even though they had greated to lose from EU funding. Simply, they were fed up with well off middle class people telling them they were stupid.

So heres the Trump election. Trump supporters are routinely sneered at and belittled, mostly by the American equivalent of British EU supporters. I have bet a large amount of money that the polls are wrong, and the actual Trump support will only show on the day. The ‘basket of deplorables’ might yet rise up.
