You Better Watch — #TV2Watch (Sept/Oct 2017)

It is the most wonderful time of the year. The start of the television premiere season! While the traditional TV landscape calendar of September to May has become more loose with the continued growth of streaming services and programming offered in the summer, September remains the starting line for must-see-TV viewing.
From returning comedic cult favorites to trending on Twitter dramas to series premieres, September is where is all begins. Get out your phones, notepads to write down times and times, and get your DVRs ready cause you better watch these TV shows.
American Horror Story: Cult
FX | Premieres September 5, Tuesdays at 10pm

Ryan Murphy is notorious for his outside the box, room, and house thinking, but a season centered around the 2016 election? That’s actually a new one if we’re being honest. To break it down…
…the new season in the multiple award-winning series will start on the night of the 2016 Election. To answer the question everyone is thinking: No, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will not be central characters in the season, but will appear in archival footage shown in episodes. As much as we all would enjoy and/or be shocked to watch our presidential candidates be portrayed on a show like American Horror Story, Murphy has made clear it is about the emotions in the aftermath of the election than specific individuals.
This season will surely be Murphy’s most risky and unpredictable season since AHS: Freakshow.
Broad City
Comedy Central | Premieres September 13, Wednesdays at 10:30pm

Our favorite gal pals in the city return for a fourth season and their return has been awaited long enough. The original premiere date was August 23 before being pushed back to September 13. The antics of Abbi and Ilana are eagerly looked forward to, but viewers will first see in the season premiere how the two best friends met. A story that is sure to be a delight, plus, viewers will find out if the hilarious duo have changed in the years since.
On another note, the upcoming season is touting a bevy of guest stars, including, comedy veterans Jane Curtin and Wanda Skyes, along with, Supermodel of the World RuPaul. The characters and situations the seasons guest stars will play are held closely under wraps, but RuPaul is rumored to be playing a version of himself.
If one show can master the art of guest starring: stand-out bits, but don’t relay on them, it is a show like Broad City.
Scandal
ABC | Premieres October 5, Thursdays at 9pm

Spoiler Alter (but you should have watched it by now)
What will Thursday nights be without wine, popcorn, and a new thriller breathe-catching episode of Scandal. The high stakes political drama heads into its final season, to avoid spoilers this will be kept brief, in the aftermath of an election that beats our own in terms of craziness. The initial winner of the Presidential election was assassinated, President Grant is now former President Grant, Mellie has become the first female President while avoiding an assassination of her own, and her pick for Vice President was forced into committing suicide after the revelation she was behind her husband’s death to avoid the role of first lady. The role of first lady has never received much love from Shonda. Wonder what Michelle Obama thinks about this??
The final season is sure to be a mix of twists and turns that have only continued to reach new heights with each season. Is Olitz over? Who’s Mellie’s new VP? Are you excited to see Abby and Quinn raise a baby together?
Will & Grace
NBC | Premieres September 28, Thursdays at 9pm

Honey what’s going on, what’s happening here? What’s happening is Will & Grace is back for not only one new season, but two! A special place in fan’s hearts has been missing since the ground breaking and beloved sitcom went off the air in 2006. The rerun therapy has been good and the 2016 election special gave us badly need laughs, but new episodes are in urgent need. The revived series will return to its former roots on Thursday nights starting September 28.
There have been several images of scripts and tiny bits of leaked information on what the upcoming episodes will look like. Apparently Karen will have a monkey. Bet’s on that monkey will have fabulous clothes to match Karen’s. However, not everything seems to be good between Grace and Leo when they return to the TV screen. Yet, the biggest reveal is about the former series finale. How will they reconcile Will and Grace not talking until they’re kids, Ben and Lila, meet in college? The simple answer: it didn’t happen now, don’t over think it.
I am a supporter of continuity, but I can always make an exemption for Will & Grace.
Valor
CW | Premieres October 9, Mondays at 9pm

In the era of Peak TV and TV channels unsure whether to narrow their programming focus or broaden, it is refreshing to see a channel try to unexplored territory. Military drama’s are nothing to television, but the CW has yet to try its hand at it.
Valor centers on Captain Leland Gallo and Warrant Officer Nora Madani, who are Army helicopter pilots who must conceal the truth about a mission in Somalia which left their crew chief, Jimmy Kam, behind and stranded. The drama is out of the usual realm of D.C superhero series, but carries its similar themes of complexities of heroism and soapy romantic relationships. The series is worth a viewing and sure to be a great starter to revving up of your TV watching week.
