Kung Fu Hustle

A Mad Frenzy of Crazy Kung Fu Action

Once I saw that one of my favourite kung fu movies was on TV, I knew that I had to watch it again. So, I quickly hit record on the PVR, ran out and got myself a large Creme Soda and a large margarita pizza, then came back home to enjoy my feast. As I ate dinner, I fell in love with this film all over again.

I could almost feel the characters on screen nudging me with their lightning fast elbows and throwing me knowing winks as they hit every stereotype from every kung fu movie in history with skilful precision. My eyes feasted upon some of the most innovative fight choreography to be found in any movie, exciting the martial artist within me. Each action sequence was a slice of sheer brilliance, leaving me saying “whoa” more times than a cowboy on a runaway horse. The sheer ludicrously of the dialogue had me in fits of hysterical laughter, green soda creeping it’s way up my nasal cavity.

As the plot unfolded, my sides split with laugher while our bumbling wannabe gangster tried to infiltrate the ranks of the notorious Ax Gang. Along the way, I met extravagant characters that felt like amalgamations ripped from the very psyche of kung fu culture, all with a uniquely ‘Loony Toons’ style twist. The journey to being one of China’s toughest gangsters stumbles upon a strangest twist of fate, a call to honour and some mind blowing, kick ass moves.

‘Kung Fu Hustle’ had me laughing so hard that I was sure I was going to have Jackie Chan like abs by the end of the movie. I was stunned and amazed by its breathtaking kung fu, comically brilliant humour, head spinningly unique action sequences and intriguing characters. A fantastic film that is seriously light hearted, but with loads of clout, ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ may be a parody of itself, but the action within is no joke. This movie begs to be watched and enjoyed.
