I can’t remember who it was, but I saw a great presentation at a conference 3 years ago on using breakpoints based on the readable line-lengths for you content. So instead of thinking about devices, you are thinking about your content first and foremost and what makes the most sense for the readability of the content that your grids contain. …also hammers home the “don’t use pixels” point you make earlier, by having you focus on the relative size of your text.
