Top Job Sites in Australia

5 min readSep 26, 2024

As the founder of Five Bees Media, I have been involved in building and launching job platforms since 2009. Throughout this journey, I’ve worked with various software platforms and collaborated with teams to create job sites from the ground up.

In my experience in the recruitment technology space, I’ve developed a few favourites along the way. While the big-name platforms often receive all the attention, I believe it’s the niche job boards that truly deserve the spotlight. In this article, I will break down my list of the most interesting and innovative niche job sites.

Backpacker Job Board

Backpacker Job Board was founded in 2010. It’s a job site for working holiday makers. It aims to help backpackers and travellers find short-term and casual work while they explore Australia (and New Zealand).

Ok — I know I’m biassed — but Backpacker Job Board was my first and most successful project. I was a backpacker myself travelling the east coast of Australia when I built the very first iteration of this website. Since then, the site has gone on to great achievements. It has a huge niche following and operates across many sectors as a successful and cost effective recruitment platform.

Ethical Jobs

Ethical Jobs

This is one of my most favourite websites. There’s so much to be impressed with. I love their websites UI/UX — the design is simple, effective and brilliantly executed. They redesign the main layout frequently to improve usability for their local members.

If the branding doesn’t excite you, then the roles advertised on Ethical Jobs certainly will. This is because Ethical Jobs is home to some of the most meaningful employment opportunities in Australia.

As a social enterprise, Ethical Jobs matches community donations to selected charities each week, contributing up to $9,000. They have donated over $1,000,000 to more than 170 charities since its inception.
