I would say that Super Bowl 48 should absolutely be an archetype, because unless you’re an avid Peyton Manning fan or loathe the Seahawks to the point where you can’t appreciate anything they do, that was one of the most significant blowouts in sports history.

Not only did Seattle laugh all the way to the bank that game, they did it as the underdogs (+3 according to Vegas just about everywhere, a whole lot more than that in the media). They enjoyed throttling a team that no one thought could possibly be as easy to take down as they ended up being, and they ran up the score for a while before finally pumping the brakes once they were up 35 in the 4th.

The one problem is that because there’s those last 8 minutes or so, it’s not a true archetype. It’s a pretty great blowout with a lot of good context to it, though, so I thought it might make a good honorable mention.
