I believe racism is part of human evolution, seen as “the fear of the other” and comes from the time when more than one “human species” roamed the earth. Saying it can be cured is like saying “poor eyesight” can be cured with glasses. Thinking we can cure it only leaves us vulnerable when it inevitably crops up again.
It can be treated. As thinking, sentient humans it is our “job” to address racism and do our utmost to eliminate it. The younger we start the better the outcome. It is more like genetic diabetes, it can be managed and a good life lived but only when there is an effort.
Notice too that the closer a group gets to feeling their survival is threatened the more racism they display. This shows just how far “down” the evolutionary ladder it is anchored.
I personally have a theory that the surface features that make up “race” are actually inside each human, just not expressed on an epigenetic level. If we took 5,000 “white people” and somehow kept them isolated in central Africa for 10,000 years they would “turn black” as their offspring’s epigenetics responded to the new environment.
