Current State of Racism in America

Nobody is going to argue with Barrack Obama becoming president of United State not being a big stepping stone in overcoming racism in America, but is how relevant is racism currently in America? Is racism still an issue? These are the questions that will be answered.

“The question of Obama’s “Blackness” initially caused considerable comment, because some thought that it was an inappropriate issue, a point countered by writers who appeared to be culturally Black nationalist and thus hostile to the prospect of his candidacy as an untraditional “African America”. ”
-Ron Walters pg.4

I think that it is important to mention that Barrack Obama is one half African American. This caused Obama to be “racial confused” when he growing up. But he chose to defines himself has an African American. He currently has a great influence on the African American Community. He has increased the number of African Americans in high government jobs . He has given Healthcare to the whole public. This was something that benefited everybody but it was extra helpful to African Americans, because many people in the black community did not have access to Healthcare. He won the respect of blacks during his politic campaign (though many were not sure if he had enough “blackness”)and has taken care of them during his time in office.

Barrack Obama with black community

So with Barrack Obama being the first black president does that mean that racism is solved? No, there is still many racial conflicts today. There are some people that choose to believe that America has surpassed races problems and that this is no longer an issue. With there being a black president, and affirmative action helping undo all previous wrong doing. There are other people that believe that separation and tension between race has never been worse. With the protest movement Black Lives Matter about police brutality on African Americans. This is also proof of there being institutional racism. There has been debates like black actors not getting enough Oscars. Or the man that died in Florida prison from something that should have been noticed and easily treated.

Max Gracia died in prison from no treatment of infestion

There are People that legitimacy as the first black president, one of those men is Dr. Ben Carson. Ben Carson ran for president yearly this year and was hoping to become the first true African American president. Ben Carson thought that Obama was raised white and should not speak for black communities. Dr. Carson thought that he could do a better job at leading this generations of African Americans.
