Autoletics, I couldn’t agree more with this statement:

> Logs, metrics, and traces are merely poor proxy representations and observations of the actual action performed by software. They are not what the software is or does.

Having read the rest of the post, however, I am struggling to understand the main point you are trying to make. Of course logs and metrics “are not what the software is”, but who seriously is suggesting that they are? Logs and metrics are useful, proven tools or mechanisms to understand system behaviour, not attempts at simulation :)
