I’m not sure I disagree with anything you wrote. I think what I started thinking about when I was writing the article was the relationship of the white artist to the history of the music. Perhaps the context of how the artist uses the music and how they interact with the culture they assimilate is more important than anything else. People seem to have problems with Justin’s relationship to black music and black culture more because of his lack of political engagement than anything else. What do you think?
