Writing Is Easy

Say it with me…writing is easy.

It’s true.

The physical act of writing is easy. For the vast majority of us, it takes very little effort to lift a pen or run our fingers across a keyboard. Language is one of the earliest concepts taught to us. We practice forming our letters first. Then we learn to combine them into words, then sentences, paragraphs, and so on.

Just look around you and realize that writing isn’t really difficult. It’s always been one of the burdens writers have to deal with as artists. Our work has a very low barrier to entry. You don’t need to master techniques like those involved in oil painting or playing the harp to be taken seriously by some. The techniques you do need to master don’t require anything expensive. Mess up a draft and throw it away.

That can be a really expensive process for oil painting. Believe me. I know.

So, what’s the big deal? Let it go. Writing is easy. Why do you have all of these anxieties built up inside of you? What’s holding up that novel? I said it in the beginning, writing is easy.

Well, kind of…

Writing with Style On the Other Hand…

While the physical act of writing is easy, writing with style is harder.
