All about me
My name is Thomas Matthews, i’m 23 years old. I’m a proud Indigenous man. My tribe is Wangkumara.
I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Primary Education (Indigenous Studies) at ACU.
I live in a small country beach town, Culburra. I have lived in Culburra for 23 years.
I’m currently working as a attendance mentor at a primary school. I’m very passionate about my job, as I believe I’m making a very big impact in my students lives. Making school a fun, happy and most importantly a safe environment for them to fulfill their education..
Uni for me so far has been a very challenging obstacle as it hasn’t been the smoothest ride.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with epilepsy. Seizures were an occurring thing until 2 years ago. I went under the knife and had brain surgery on my left frontal lobe (speech and memory). I’m now 2 years seizure free! Although I’m seizure free, I’m still very unconfident with my studies. In saying this, I believe I can overcome this issue and train my brain to grow and move forward into a successful future.
In this course I believe learning the basics of technology will have a huge impact in my future as a teacher. I’m very excited to see how far I can push myself.
