I agree, sort of. I agree that obfuscation is the enemy of satisfaction, and that it’s beyond daunting to navigate a bike shop, or worse, craigslist, in the pursuit of a bike. All for a simple bike. But compared to a mattress? We all sleep the same, while riding bikes is different by city, by terrain, by season. The idea of one bike to meet all needs ends up meeting few (if any). It’s complicated and messy. But done well, like a tailored suit or couture dress selected and sized by an expert, it’s unparalleled. What if it’s art instead of a commodity?
