Interaction Design

  1. In this sprint we had our first hands on experience in prototyping iPhone applications. Our goal was to begin brainstorming and working on an app that provides information about animals to researchers, while also being rewarding to the user. My application idea was “Watch Dog”. The app uses a specialized collar to record a dog’s activity, and display that information along with helpful weight control tools on your phone screen. Similar to a “FitBit”, this app will allow owners to control and track their dog’s weight loss and exercise. The information is then relayed to researchers to allow them to study the exercise patterns of dogs.

2. This project really highlighted the fact that I can’t draw. It took me a lot of time and attention to detail to come up with design images needed to make the Prototype on Paper. I need to work on my ability to draw quickly and legibly. These are essential skills needed for any product designer.

3. This sprint allowed us to be creative individual and gave us hands on experience in app prototyping. I enjoyed this sprint much more than the UCD Charrette because we created something tangible. I think the POP platform is extremely useful for prototyping and was my favorite part of the assignment. The flexibility and depth that the platform provides is perfect for this type of prototyping.
