If you thought ChatGPT’s millions of users indicated that the workforce had completely shifted to using AI, then you’re in for a shocking discovery:

Nearly the entire global workforce is either NOT using AI (artificial intelligence) in the workplace or fully understanding its benefits, according to findings from the Workforce Index, a study released by Slack.

The study found that nearly two-thirds of workers have NOT used AI tools at work, while more than 90% do not view AI as reliable in completing their work projects.

This illustrates a significant problem!

Many employers and leaders recognize the urgent need for an AI-enhanced workforce and understand how beneficial and essential this technology is to employee well-being, improving job satisfaction, creating new jobs and improving business results.

In fact, “the urgency among executives to integrate AI tools into business processes has increased 7 times in the first six months of 2024 and is now a TOP concern, higher than inflation or the economy in as a whole”.

However, most employees still lack AI skills.

So, if there are few employees to meet the demand, jobs will only be given to a few professionals who have the skills and can prove it, meaning YOU, like many other applicants, could find yourself deprived of employment opportunities. Without realizing it, if you don’t have the required AI skills.

PwC has released surprising data on artificial intelligence and its impact on the growing workforce by 2024, in its Global AI Jobs Barometer report.

PwC : or PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited is a multinational professional services brand of firms, operating as partnerships under the PwC brand. It is the second-largest professional services network in the world and is considered one of the Big Four accounting firms, along with Deloitte, EY, and KPMG.

AI jobs are growing 3.5 times faster than all jobs.

For every AI job opening in 2012, there are now seven job openings.

Jobs requiring AI skills carry a salary premium of up to 25% in some markets.

Additionally, and perhaps the most important thing that the report highlighted is that “skills sought by employers are growing at a 25% higher rate in occupations most exposed to AI.

We all know that using AI we can easily integrate multiple features in our daily job tasks, the thing that wil make us more efficient and more fast.

Learning with AI has been multiplied two times than before. Finding an information today is not only related to search engines only but also AI.

That is why it’s becoming a crucial skill that every employee should consider learning.

Additionally, AI skills can also INCREASE your salary potential. Given their scarcity due to the current skills gap, there is a high demand for professionals with artificial intelligence skills, skill that anyone could learn on platforms like COURSERA for example.

All this suggests that AI is not a technical skill reserved only for technical professions. Non-technical professionals who want to maintain a competitive edge in the job market would do well to upskill in 2024 by training in one or more of the following common AI skills:

1. Prompt engineering

Prompt engineering is one of the essential and required skills that anyone using generative AI technology must master in order to be effective at work.

Prompt engineering is the process of directing generative AI solutions to generate desired results, using detailed instructions to create relevant, high-quality results.

We can find solutions like ChatGPT, with it’s paid version it gives us lots of opportunities, or we can use free AI like the integrated COPILOT that we find in EDGE browser.

You should know that PROMPT engineering is an entry-level!! skill that you can use almost anywhere. It’s a skill that can open the door to many opportunities.

In fact, adding generative AI skills like prompt engineering to your skillset can increase your salary by up to 47%, making it the highest paid tech skill on the market today. while the same PwC report noted that “jobs” with artificial intelligence intelligence skills require a pay premium of up to 25% in some markets.

2. Data analysis

The second most important skill to learn on COURSERA for example and that will help you to join important organizations that typically use data to make their most important daily decisions is DATA ANALYSIS.

Since the rise of AI, data has become a HOT TOPIC, a trend in the professionnal world.

Executives and employers want to implement and integrate AI into their workflow, and AI is hungry for data. As a result, data analysts and those with the skills to manage large data sets can reasonably expect to earn more than $110,000, according to salary research sites like Salary.com.

3. Continuous learning

Believe it or not, showing that you are flexible to change and willing to learn (through your learning history) is more valuable to employers than you think.

Getting certifications not only helps employers take you seriously by proving that you have technical knowledge and expertise, but it also helps them accomplish something more important: it proves to employers that you are committed to growing in as a professional, that you are happy to evolve over time, and you want to learn.

For example, Aaron Sens, director of talent, AI and machine learning at Razoroo, told The Muse that a willingness to learn is the biggest soft skill he looks for when recruiting for roles. in AI, GenAI or related fields.

This year, spend your time mastering these three areas: generative AI, agile engineering, data, and your appetite for learning.
