Knowing what questions to ask, and how to ask them, is the most important thing, but the importance of knowing which technique you need to use to find answers that are reliable and accurate, and directly relevant to the question, can’t be understated, either. You may not be using those other tools 99% of the time, but you also know why you don’t have to use them for the work that you describe here. It’s the importance of knowing where to put the X, as opposed to knowing how to draw one.
