Awesomesauce if you do all that, truly AWESOMESAUCE! Although, does it differ from week to week? How about day to day? How about post to post? Sure, not everyone is going to see every single piece of content you make (hey there hustler Gary Vaynerchuk), but they’re going to get an idea of who… err what you want the world to think about you, from an online perspective. You’re creating your own online reality, your brand, what people should think of when your name comes up. That’s very far from being true to yourself though, right? Yes, yes it is.
Okay, so I get it, you’re this business person who works super hard and has some tips. You say you’re offering me (and the world) extreme value through the content you provide. Why does it start to feel the same and not fresh or even that valuable? I hear what you’re saying, I heard it yesterday and last month too. You had me for a bit when I first found you, but now it’s all predictable and I’m hopping off this train. Although, I look around and there are so many more climbing on board with their own RINSE & REPEAT social, so my Tweetdeck starts to look like full out, market-y AUTOMATION?!
[Insert that internal voice scream here that happens to us all sometimes]

Is this just me or do you feel like some people are using social media to build a perception of who they are, what they know, what their “value” is and not reality (Glad, it’s NOT just me that feels that way)? Are you being seduced by their buzzwords, energy and smile? Not everyone wants to reveal their personal life and details, I understand that, but give me some idea of what you like besides your business or new book we should all buy, screenshot and then share. What do you find funny or what appeals to you? You can preach that your entire life is all business, business, hustle, work, etc., but that is so not true. How can that be true? If that’s true, how can you ever fully enjoy it?
What I enjoy about social media might not be the same as you, but variety is important. I hear some people like knowing that they are going to always get comedy from say Billy Eichner and mostly always get Tech News from say Robert Scoble. It makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside. Personally, I’d like a bigger package from someone and at the very least, actual content and actual thoughts from them as well.
P.S.- Both Billy and Robert do provide more than just their known “labels”.
I don’t want to constantly see quotes you “enjoy”, I don’t want to see your 5 tweets about your upcoming show in 1 day whether a podcast or a live stream, I don’t want to see your generic messages over & over again, I don’t want to come back to your stream to find that you’re posting almost 99% identical content day in and day out. I’ve talked to people who said they won’t even SHARE content, unless it’s “ON BRAND”. They won’t invite people to watch your interesting live stream because while it’s interesting, it’s not what their “brand” is or it is just OFF MESSAGE. What happened to social being social and people being people? You don’t want people to know you enjoy something explicit, fine, but what about something fun? I’m not for this whole perception > reality model that’s in current swing and really wonder how long it can be sustained.
What are you seeing out there in the social media concrete jungle where dreams and Vine Stars are made of? Are more & more people using every social platform almost the same way to push their same message? Is it making you throw up yet or what? Now that both Facebook and Snapchat are pondering paying users for being content creators, I feel like this kind of content cycle will only get worse and bury the GOLD, the ORIGINAL, ya know the stuff that isn’t made over and over and over and over again or at least not in a way we’ve already seen.
How do we solve this going forward?
This might feel a little like a first world problem to some of you and perhaps it is. Perhaps it’s just my PERCEPTION. I think we start by diving deeper and supporting people we truly enjoy through sharing. Some platforms like Snapchat or Periscope make it easier to recognize what we see, somebody who is true to whom they actually are. Right now, I think it starts by putting our money where our mouths are and getting behind our “can’t miss people” putting themselves out there on Social Media.
BRING ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS!
I’m super curious to have this conversation with as many of you as possible because actual voices and beings (also, the person(s) on RINSE & REPEAT will usually be the first to make fun of or belittle a foodporn post for example) seem to be drowning out in favor of this newer form (although it’s old internet marketing in disguise btw) of social media.
Do you see the marketing social strategist-expert who is on a content schedule completely ruling and taking over ALL SOCIAL MEDIA from Snapchat [yea that’s mine!] to Twitter to Facebook to even Musical.ly? I think it can be saved!
