Ten Rules of Happiness
I want to share a list of ten rules that a wise man shared with me, to help me in my journey through life; as well as to help me find more happiness in it…
…This list will grant you more freedom and motivation to keep on facing life, and its many twists and turns.
If you and I heed EVERY ONE of these ten rules, our lives will be more simple…and more joyful.
TEN RULES OF HAPPINESS
- Develop yourself by self-discipline.
- Joy comes through the creation, sorrow through destruction. Every living thing can grow; Use the world wisely to realize soul growth.
- Do things which are hard to do.
- Entertain uplifting thoughts. What you think about when you do not have to think shows what you really are.
- Do your best this hour, and you will do better the next.
- Be true to those who trust you.
- Pray for wisdom, courage, and a kind heart.
- Give heed to Deity’s messages to you through inspiration. If self-indulgence, jealousy, avarice, or worry have dampened your soul — pray to get rid of those impediments.
- True friends enrich life. If you would have friends, be one.
- Belief is the foundation of all things, including happiness!
This is the single greatest list of helpful, and useful tips, I have ever read :-)!
As college students, there are many how-to lists out there: some relevant to us, some not. Some of those lists are what we need to have help finding our passions in school and for work — ours is the task of finding the right lists.
We get hit on every side by information on how to find the right job for us, how to date, how this subject we’re learning in school or work is vital for us to learn, and many more like these…
…Alas, if we follow this list, I can promise you that we will find all of our needs in life work out for OUR good, after we work on them over and over again.
It may seem challenging, but let us work on one of these ten rules for a while…until we feel like we’ve mastered it, and move onto another rule.

This quote by Master Yoda will always be one of my favorites!
“Do or do not…there is no try.” is true MOST of the time! While this quote from the coolest green Jedi around holds up in deciding big decisions, this wisdom simply does not work when choosing the little things in life.
Big, life-altering choices, like who to date is just one decision that this quote has a hold on. Think about it, why is this? Comment below with your thoughts on the question.
In regards to the little things in life, like, “which school should I attend,” this wisdom is irrelevant.
On the question of which school to attend, one must try. It may not be the right school for you, but we need to think about this decision ourselves and go for it — before we may have another path open up to us!
In my life, I have recently had this exact same sequence of events happen to me. I was going to BYU-Idaho last semester, and half-way in the semester, I realized that the school was NOT the college for me…
…I was pretty frustrated at first, when I thought that I had just wasted half of a semester — and more of my life — at a school where I didn’t make progress to my goal!
As time passed…frankly, I knew that BYU-Idaho was merely a stepping-stone for me.
I do not know what is in store with my life, but I do know that if I work at finding a right path for me, things will fall into place.
I also know that this list of ten rules of happiness, among others, will help me more in my quest of finding my path in life!
I have a short video for you to see on having direction and more happiness…
Life has many twists and turns for ALL of us! The key, especially for us: college students who are either starting out — or have graduated, is to find the right lists and words of wisdom to help us on this journey of life :-)!
