Thanks for the Rejection Letters!
So, I’m looking for a job.
What I do and the type of job I’m looking for is not relevant to this story. This isn’t a story about me; it’s a story about the good guys.
Lemme’ explain.
You see, during my search thus far, I’ve applied for 97 positions. While I’m hopeful that some of those are still alive, it’s more likely that the majority are not.
Let’s optimistically say that 10 applications are still working their way through company HR departments. That leaves me with 87 dead applications.
If you had to guess, how many of those companies, the ones where my application is dead, let me know that fact?
I won’t hold you in suspense: the number of companies that formally rejected me, the ones that sent me rejection letters (via email of course), is 15 or 17% of my dead applications.
Now, you might say, “Well, HR departments and staffing firms get so many resumes these days that they can’t reply to them all.”
I call bull on that. Almost all the companies I’ve applied at used some form of online recruiting solution. If a mass rejection email function is not part of their solution, then they should be shopping for another solution.
(Obligatory credibility statement: I know online solutions. After all, I’m the Tech Editor over at Small Business Trends).
Instead of venting my displeasure further however, I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank those companies that did formally reject me
You’re the good guys and I respect the heck out of each and every one of you:
