Do Not Worry

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you — you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:19–34 NLT)
It is critical that you live your life focused on what is pleasing and precious to Me, your Creator, your God, and Father. I don’t want you to spend your life preoccupied and caught up chasing earthly prizes and goals, which are just matter, like you, and will be destroyed and come to an end one day. When you worry, the most important part of you — your self, your heart, and your soul — isn’t trusting Me. And when you’re not trusting Me, you’re not with Me. What I want most from you is to be with you.
Your choice to worry or not to worry affects your entire outlook on life. If you’re constantly worried, you’re going to make decisions out of fear, trying to secure your own future, living apart from me. However, if you spend your entire life trusting Me, you will see clearly, you will ask what I desire, and I will reveal these things to you. You will make decisions out of love, peace, and confidence that I am leading you always, as I’ve promised to do.
The reason why your choice of whether to worry or to trust Me is so important is that humans are capable of being devoted to only one Master. I’ve made you to be whole-hearted, single-minded, and fully devoted. It’s impossible to trust Me when you’re worried sick. When you have complete confidence in My ability, promise, and desire to provide for you, there’s no space for worry. You will know that I am with you and love to give you great and wonderful things.
Your worries and concerns might revolve around taking a new job, moving to a new city, buying or renting a home, saving sufficient funds for retirement, but these are all connected to your core issue: you’re afraid that you won’t have enough. Enough food, enough shelter, enough clothing. The basics are what you really need. But in your culture you not only try to fulfill your own needs, but you run as far as possible in the opposite direction of lack, towards excessive abundance. Your fear is so great that you spend your entire life running away from potential pain, instead of coming to Me. I am able to comfort you in your fear, and I assure you that in My loving embrace, you do not have to fear.
If you look around at the world I’ve created, I’ve provided clear demonstrations of how I delight in providing everything that is needed for my people and the creatures I’ve made, all of whom I love. Birds don’t save for retirement. Flowers don’t plan their fall wardrobe. They live! They rise each day and faithfully go about their work in finding food to eat and building homes for their families, twig by twig. They take in the air, sun, and water I graciously pour out on them and effortlessly develop over time into beautiful, towering monuments. When their time comes to an end, sometimes suddenly, they move on. They were never in control, and never were meant to be. Your days are numbered, and that’s a good thing! You are best served enjoying each and every minute I give you. That’s how I’ve made you to live.
