Courage only happens when someone does what they are most afraid of.

1. Death

This is a very cantankerous subject, but at some point you need to accept that you are not going to live forever.

Everything is in the process of decay.

You can’t bring anything with you into the next life: your belongings, land, memories, body, ideas and beliefs.

What happens when we die? Who knows. And this is the reason why it is so important to live in the now and do what you are most passionate about.

Do what you love doing and this fear will dissipate.

2. Public Speaking

Getting up in front of a crowd and delivering your ideas to other people is petrifying for most of us.

We watch Ted talks and think that people delivering these are naturals and demigods.

What we don’t realise is the hours of practice and preparation that goes into each performance. They received help from coaches and mentors to write and deliver the perfect speech on their topic of choice.

These people share the same anxiety as you.

3. Failure

Failing elicits disappointment and frustration.

Although it is very unpleasant, it is part of the process.

The regret of retreat, outweighs the regret of failure.

When you finally do succeed one time, the millions of times you failed will be overlooked.

4. Not Being Enough

Inadequacy is elegance and there is no logical reason why you are not enough.

The world doesn’t give you what you want, but what you need. You were born will everything you ever need in life achieve your dreams.

Play to your strengths and surround yourself with great people that support your weaknesses.

5. Heights

Stop worrying about your plane crashing and ending up on a mysterious island with a smoke monster.

When you are high in the air, it is natural to feel uncomfortable, since humans evolved close to the ground in small tribes.

Whether you fear flying or get dizzy while being a feet off the ground, vertigo is likely when you disregard the laws of gravity.

At this point in our evolution as a species, we are less likely to grow wings than to turn into cybernetic organisms.

6. Animals and Insects

We should probably include clowns into this category.

Spiders or snakes, whether giant or microscopic, have a great impact on people since they look different than we do.

Your brain is more complex than any other creature that currently exists on the planet and this is why we are the dominant species on the planet.

When you think about it, these creatures are more afraid of us than we are of them.

7. Poverty

Everyone worries about money.

What you must understand is that there is such an abundance of everything in this universe.

Learning new ways use the money to work for you is necessary and you must constantly be increasing your financial knowledge.

Formal schooling is not going to teach you how to burgeon you wallet unfortunately.

You are living in one of the most prosperous times in history.

8. Being Alone

Very small spaces or not having other people in your life makes you feel like Matt Damon in the Martian.

We all want validation and have other people in our lives to laugh with, share stories and have physical contact.

When you are alone, you become self-reliant and learn to entertain yourself with very simple things and develop new ideas.

All that external stimulation melts away and you create happiness from within.

9. Caring What Other People Think Of You

Approval from other people makes us act in a very inflexible manner whereby we develop the need to please everyone.

Pleasing people is important and this is paradoxical because there are times when you will need to disagree with another person and stand your ground.

We all want to be liked and endorsed by other people and fit in.

Being rejected is agonizing , but giving into social pressure hurts your integrity.

10. Success

Icarus flew too close to the sun, which melted the wax of his wings and he plummeted into the sea and died.

His father Deadelus built him these wings and warned him to not fly too high or too low.

Don’t trust this myth.

We are afraid of too much success and that we don’t deserve it and will get hurt if we fly too high.

You need to have huge dreams that are virtually impossible to achieve and this will keep you motivated to never stop going.

11. Dentists and Doctors

Look, you need to visit someone who is qualified to examine your physical health from time to time.

Loud noise and blood are admittedly disturbing.

Men are the worst with this, since we think we are invincible.

Being in a sterile environment to be examined is important because we put ourselves under constant stress in our day to day hustle.

It is better that you find about an illness when it is small, before it metastasizes into malignance and becomes irreversible.

12. Commitment

Buying new electronics and upgrading technology can be excruciating, since most devices become obsolete and antiquated so quickly in our modern times.

Whether a phone contract or personal relationship, we all want to have a certain level of freedom in our lives.

No one wants to feel trapped and be fully attached to something or someone.

There is the opinion that something better will come to us in the future. This is true to a certain extent, but even that will have its flaws and limitations.

Once again, men are the worst with this.

13. Change

What works now will be shorlty be disrupted by something new and even that will be disturbed by something new.

Understand, this is a never ending cycle.

There is always a better way to do things and your ability to adapt is instrumental in achieving your goals.

Altering something that has previously been working creates uncertainty of the future while we romanticize with the past.

Not moving forward will only cause you to stagnate.

You must commit yourself to a life of never ending learning because our world is constantly in flux.

New skills make you a linchpin and a leader that others can rely on for advice.

You should now be fully aware that we are all afraid of something.

In reality, you need to stand up to your inner demons that are holding you back.

Nervousness is normal and the aptitude for bravery is valued immensely in any part of life.
