As a neuroscientist, to anyone who claims that biological differences are responsible for particular changes, I would demand to prove it in a normal scientific way. Literally — that difference makes this outcome. Otherwise you just point to a well known fact (women are different biologically from men, good if you can also point to how in particular their brains are different), but your conclusion is absolutely voluntary, i.e. you can say that any particular difference is because of biology, and not say culture, upbringing or whatever else. I am sorry for James, but what he said was simply really stupid. However, there is one point in acknowledging the difference — creating a less mono-gender dominated culture. I can imagine that in a group where 80% are males, the atmosphere is somehow less comfortable for a female minority (and this might be due to culture and behavior in male groups, the way to network, etc) and therefore less females are willing to be a part of it. Conclusion is different, right? Then, I would suggest reading my recent post about what else can influence the gender gap and be an important factor to consider. https://medium.com/@matvolga/equal-opportunities-issue-gender-gap-and-learned-helplessness-68d113dcc0b6
