I totally feel you on this one and this was the impetus for my writing the piece as a fan of Tom myself…to push beyond jealous behavior or petty things of that nature. My whole desire was to point out how Tom has betrayed everything that has made his fans love him by choosing Taylor — but to also dig a little deeper into how that authenticity and the image he has put forth to the world has made many of us (myself included) feel close to him in a way we might not with other stars who feel less authentic. So, basically my entire aim was to investigate how stars who make their brand intellectualism, authenticity, etc. in an age consumed with branding and social media risk their fan base when they make choices that appear to their fans to be in stark contrast to what they’ve espoused. My intention was never to say that Tom’s fans are merely jealous — that’s too simple and boring — but to express exactly what you’ve said here, that he has fundamentally gone against all of the things that built that fan base.
