In our day to day life we come across a variety of people who lead various lives. There are those from hi-fi backgrounds, those from rich backgrounds, from mid-range families, from well-to-do backgrounds and so many others. We also come across people of various physical appearance: those with built up bodies, athletic bodies, well-fed bodies and others.
That was just but a few noted examples but have we ever taken our time to give a thought about the ones that are in need either physically or financially or both. It is wide open that everyone has their own personal needs that they need to fulfill but they could as well do without them. What about those who lack the most essential of them? Have we ever deeply thought about them? Out there are people who are challenged in numerous ways; there are the physically challenged, financially challenged and orphans without much support. These people face a lot of trouble in handling their daily lives.
We, the general public, have the pleasure of affording some luxuries every once in a while, or at least in the minimum we can afford to live a life with our basic necessities but these people only get to see others living their life while they suffer out there with very few people who actually care about them. Sometimes we can overlook the fact that most of us do not give a thought about this but cannot be ignored is how we react when we spot one of them or when one of them approaches us. We tend to trend them as they are creatures of minimal importance yet that’s not the case. They are just like any other person except for the fact that they aren’t as abled as us. Personally, I get a feeling of disgust when I witness the way people react in such situations.
Someone once said that nothing is permanent in this world therefore when one of them approaches us, we should put ourselves in their shoes and think how we would have wanted to be treated if we were them. These individuals approach us with a lot of hope and what’s more saddening is that we shatter that little light of hope by our actions.
Let us take an example of a physically challenged person seated by the road side begging but we still overlook him/her or even worse we snare as we pass by, why? What did that person ever do to you? Many of such people have a lot of determination to do a lot. Some of them were not like that, they underwent some tragic incident that affected their life in such a way that they no longer have the ability to fix it. They have the potential to make something out of their life if given that chance. In some cases, people come across a physically disabled person and end up making fun of them. To make the matters worse, in this era of social media we make memes and viral videos of them without giving a thought of what impact it would have on them. They have emotions too, they have lives too so why judge their lives and make fun of them when we do not know what kind of life they lead?
Furthermore, we behave quite insolently with those who approach us for some pennies so that they get something to fill their stomachs which have been empty for a number of days. I agree that they live in unhygienic conditions but that should not disgust us. Let us try and think from their perspective. They cannot afford to look after themselves and live in utmost hardship. They have to cope with so many challenges including physical abuse, mental abuse and to some extent sexual abuse. They need to be shown some love so that they can smile too. We need to support them too. We are in this together, we are all humans and they have their rights too just like us.
In addition to that, orphans are also part of our community who are given very little attention. They need love and care just we all do from our loved ones. It is not their fault that have to live with their parents but I assure you it is our fault that they do not get the love and care that they are entitled to. Parents present or not, friends and relatives present or not we all deserve love and care and so do they. Let us not make them curse themselves for what they did not do.
In conclusion, we ought to reason like civilized human beings and turn away from tormenting others because of the situation they are in. It is not their choice to be there and it is not our duty to ignore them. Let’s join hands and show some humanity towards them, they are humans too and they have rights too similar to ours. Give them some attention, shower them with love and show them some appreciation.
