Random notes on desire.

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Romans 13:14 NIV

The desires of the flesh can be many things. Anything in opposition to the Holy Spirit is a desire of our human flesh.

What is a sample list of these "desires"?

I think they can be from any aspect. Whether it is physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual, or mentally.
We desire to look the best (it isn’t a bad desire to want to look the best YOU can, but it is a bad desire to want to compare yourself and look better than others)
We desire to be gratified sexually (it isn’t bad when you desire to gratify both yourself and your spouse through a healthy marriage, but it is a bad desire when it is part of an unhealthy relationship, it is simply lust and selfishness)
We desire to be liked and loved (often times we look for likeness and love in the wrong places. When we desire to be wanted or liked it is tempting to step outside our own moral boundary to seek that desire)

The list goes on and on. We are people of desire. I haven’t met anyone that doesn’t desire things or desire to be someone. I think God made us humans of desire. However, I think in order to get what we desire on earth and more importantly in heaven, we must desire him first.
