Homework for Lauren’s mini lesson

Katniss Everdeen(Jennifer Lawrence) in the first of series “The Hunger Games” (image from wired.com).

If I were to pick a favorite superhero, I would pick have to pick Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. Cinefix classified Katniss as an everyday here. The type that has humble beginnings and has to “overcome the attitude of bootstrap hero with victimhood and accidenticity”. This fits Katniss because she comes from a single mother home and is, in a way, forced to take the place of her younger sister during the name draw for the Hunger Games. I believe that Katniss does go on a monomyth style journey because she begins as a simple and ordinary citizen of the poorest district, District 12. When she volunteers to be part of the Games, taking the place of her sister, and changes the rules of the game which leads to the unexpected win of her and her partner, she becomes a hero. She is one of my favorite hero’s because she is one of the few female heroes and she is not the “typical” hero with superpowers or extraordinary intelligence.
