Put in the Work, Reap the Rewards

Anything worth having is worth working for. That’s my own quote so steal it if you want!

It’s true though. If there’s something that you want, it’s not going to be handed to you on a silver platter. Throwing a tantrum and crying might work when you’re 8 years old, but as an adult no one is going to feel sorry for you for not getting what you want on demand. Harsh? Perhaps, but it’s a reality that we’ve all seen played out at some point.

You are going to have to work to get what you want, and you’ll probably have to work harder than you anticipate. We have a habit of severely underestimating how much work it will take to get something accomplished. I’m no different than you. I think that I can get a year’s worth of articles written in a single week. Three months later, I’m still here typing away. Accept that you’ll have to put in more work than you might think is necessary.

Along with underestimating the amount of work needed, we also want things right this second. We love instant gratification, be it a certain number of likes for a picture we post on Facebook or free 2-day delivery from Amazon. We want everything as soon as humanly possible. So what happens when things don’t happen as quickly as we want. Well, most people tend to get discouraged and give up. This is a big reason why most goals remain exactly that.

You have to put forth consistent effort. That means working at the things you want day after day, even though you might not feel any closer to the end goal. Along with that, you need to have patience. Back to our need for instant gratification, we always want things to happen as quickly as possible. That’s not always the case, especially when you’re casing after some big goals. Be consistent, be patient, put in the work and you’ll reap the rewards.
