Phil Hord Thanks for your response: that’s a really good point that implementing my suggestion would make git’s feedback too verbose. Which might backfire and make me even more likely to not read them carefully. 
Thanks for the suggestion about `git log — oneline — decorate b94d674…b21e39b`: I didn’t know git log could be used like that.
