Dear… that sounds like it couldn’t be true. Don’t get me wrong I do not doubt what she witnesses. But during my 20 year career in data & tech as an employee, manager, and founder I have NEVER EVER eperienced behavior like this from ANYONE. Not even a single time. The worst thing ever was maybe something like “Did you already walk by that new cutie in sales? She is hot!”. — And even that is considered being worth death penalty or torture here (I’m talking Germany). You will likely be fired or at least get a warning.
If THAT is what you experience in tech in France frequently you got a severe culture problem at this point. In Germany to the contrary “feminism” has become a witch hunt. We have well-known celebrity “feminists” who publicly (in newspapers or interviews) back it to accuse men of rapery, send them to jail, and to destroy their private lives, even if they have been (past perfect!) completely discharged by court — just to promote the fight against sexism. They consider such actions being a necessary sacrifice. We have “scientists” for “gender studies” who promote changing our language to make “men” and “women” equal in oral and written communication. In most bigger companies, there are special officers for women’s rights and problems. There are rates for the number of women which must be maintained in middle and upper management in the corporations…and stuff like that. It’s pretty much like in that iconic scene from “Life of Brian”, only for real (https://youtu.be/NrDVsprWRCQ?t=50).
If what you describe is to be considered “normal” France tech, maybe you should have a look at your neighbours to get some inspiration on how to deal with it ;) Just kidding, this is too much the opposite direction. But I doubt that being the case. I just cannot imagine that in a country like France this is anywhere near “normal”.
But maybe I am terribly wrong :(
