This is why the electoral college was created, because rural states need a seat at the table even if their numbers don’t match up population-wise.

This has nothing to do with why the Electoral College was created actually. It was created to keep the people from choosing the president. The Electors were supposed to be dispassionate, and removed from the rabble.

You may be thinking of the notion of electoral votes per se and their apportioning. That wasn’t done on behalf of rural states, but rather slave states. They had low population officially despite large numbers of actual people. The solution? Count those extra people — aka slaves — as 3/5 of a person for apportioning electoral votes.

Given every state 2 senators was another matter. That was designed to make sure large states didn’t lord it over smaller ones. The so-called “Great Compromise” also had nothing to do with rural vs. urban. It was more about Delaware vs. New York.
