Hi Sherry, thank you! I feel a similar mix of emotions. You know, I don’t think he saw her. It was late, she was inside. I don’t think he saw her or her nephew. But I think he may have had certain preconceptions about who lived there. (I may be wrong because I haven’t been following the case closely.) Either way, what happened is that within minutes of his arrival, she was dead. At some point he shouted out ‘Put your hands up!’ But he did not identify himself as an officer. She was inside and heard someone in her backyard. Within 2 seconds of his shouting that command he fired his gun. And that, those things, beyond her death, are what’s really hurtful. She didn’t really have a chance under those circumstances.
