Today is an exciting day — November 7 marks Fresno State’s 3rd annual Day of Giving. Generous gifts from supporters like you go directly toward support for our students.
This year, Fresno State Technology Services has a formal fund that supports technology innovation efforts that will directly support student experiences within areas of digital transformation. For example, this past year, the students in the Fresno State Hub for Digital Transformation engaged in projects involving Blockchain, Amazon Robotics, and Chat/Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning with Amazon’s Alexa. Students who have spent time in our Innovation team, along with their great Fresno State college education, have gained valuable experience for the digital workplace, and some have gone on to great full-time jobs in the tech industry. …
Day of Giving is TOMORROW! The Day of Giving is a one-day online fundraising event on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019 from midnight to midnight. All members of the Fresno State community are encouraged to participate, including students, parents, staff, faculty, alumni, friends and community leaders. Machine learning is still in its evolutionary stage with much of the progress coming from research on innovative algorithms, better data collection and preparation methods, and newer techniques such as reinforcement learning. Until recently, lack of access to the latest compute, storage, and networking has been a blocker for ML research. We are all excited to premiere the Bulldog Bot, powered by AWS RoboMaker and AI Services during Fresno State’s Homecoming Week (10/21–10/25/2019)! During Homecoming, expect to see the Bulldog Bot in full swing! The Hub of Digital Transformation will be engaging fans throughout campus with karaoke, Fresno State trivia and silly jokes!
Interactions with Bulldog ‘Homecoming’ Bot
The Bulldog Bot, a robotic take on the school mascot, is built with AWS RoboMaker and Amazon AI services.
The Bulldog Bot is designed with full stack of autonomous capabilities starting. The initial development of Bulldog “Wellness” Bot aims to bring a smile and a sense of calmness to students dealing with stress, anxiety and loneliness in everyday campus life.
Bulldog “Wellness” Bot — as an innovative way to provide emotional support and comfort to help students juggle it all.
What gains from this project fertilizes students’ knowledge roots, which will soon bloom successful stories and spread encouraging to motivate more students into Cloud technologies. We will continue exploring technology innovations to support scholarship and research in areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and robotics.

As technological advancements in education have emerged quickly and diversely over the last decade, traditional teacher-learner classroom settings may be no longer best suitable pedagogy to younger generation, who are often categorized as quick learners and heavy users of modern technology but may suffer from course information overload. A user friendly and intelligent learning environment that channels students to suitable personalized learning experience efficiently and adaptively in real-time may be a silver bullet to ease learning nightmare. The Virtual Learning Assistant (VLA) serves one of fittest candidates to the problem. Teachers and learners may earn bidirectional benefits from VLA.
