We Should Stop Feeling Entitled To Other People’s Money

Especially when we don’t have enough

As can be observed from popular culture and conversation some of us feel cheated by the super wealthy and attribute many of the world’s economic and social problems to them.

Recently a debate ensued over a US politician’s proposal to further tax the super rich to solve common social problems. People argued on different sides of the divide in favor or against the gains of such a tax proposal. In different societies arguments abound about whether single individuals should be allowed to amass wealth or not. Some argue that it is immoral to be so wealthy while some say that it is wicked and unjust for so many people to be suffering while others are so well off. This is regardless of whether or not they know that the super wealthy are big givers towards human suffering.

It is clear that there might never actually be a consensus on the matter.

Some of us have rich people in our families and sincerely believe that they should give us regular handouts. Some of us even believe that we shouldn’t have financial problems or worries once our relatives have money or come into money.

It is unclear where this mentality comes from. But we should say it as it is: it is an entitlement mentality.
