That being said, my rent does not go up (or down) depending on whether I had an emergency toilet situation — things get a bit more variable as a homeowner who has to shell out for repairs. Maybe overall it’s cheaper as a homeowner, maybe it’s not; either way, there’s a level of risk and uncertainty that I get to avoid, which is an asset in and of itself.
