Important feature that should be there in electronic medical records software?

There is no specific answer to this question but there are certain points to be taken care of at the time of designing any EMR system.

I generally focus on the ease of use and getting used to a EMR system as the most important part. EMRs are generally designed in a clunky manner making the onboarding process for a doctor or any other user really hard.

Making sure that you end up using all the modules in order to maximise the data out of your EMR should be the goal for everyone. I think that Integrations and Machinelearning in the EMR space are going to be the next steps in this Industry.

Integrations

By Integration I refer to the wide possibility of integrations of EMR with third party applications -

  • Health Data from your mobile app/Wearable (Health Kit Integration) — This would mean more usage of wearables by the general population
  • Integration of EMRs with CRMs in order to automate lot of marketing features.
  • Imagine going to a Cardiologist who can see your resting heart rate for last three months. This would be a big boost to actually coming to the exact diagnosis and reducing the chances of error for any medical practitioner. As soon as you end up home you would end seeing ads on your Facebook profile thanks to the social media integration and the information that the EMR has captured. Fast Forward to two days and you would be having emails on how to fight cholesterol. This is the power of integrations and there are endless possibilities to it.

Machine Learning
Another focus area in the healthcare Industry should be Machine Learning. Basically you are looking at the Tesla of Healthcare industry which can try to come up with a tool that can asses your health as good as a doctor. When you collect, combine , analyse and interpret so much data there is a possibility that the cure of cancer can be found. With so much literature and research done it is impossible for one human to actually go through the entire process.

Ease of use -

Too basic i guess, but i repeatedly lay my focus on using of EHR/EMR by a nursing staff in the remotest corner of India rather then by a Top Notch Physician sitting in the US. The moment that happens and the company which does that would be the Facebook of Healthcare space.

There are tonnes of features that can be listed here which would actually vary from user to user.
