Shear, M.; Davis, J. (2017, September 5). Trump Moves to End DACA and Calls on Congress to Act. Retrieved from https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/05/us/politics/trump-daca-dreamers-immigration.html?mcubz=0

Trump has ordered an end to the Obama-era program that has protected over 800,000 immigrants that were brought from other countries by their parents from deportation. Trump and his administration believes that this program threatens American citizens job opportunities as well as wages. This source in particular is very objective, the only bias that could arguably be seen is the fact that the writer referred to Donald Trump as Mr. Trump. Another point of bias could have been the quotes the author used since this article put Trump in an overall negative light. Other than that, this piece doesn’t express any blatant biases. This source presents a good argument for my topic because it provides solid evidence of how he views immigrants.

Fox News. (2017, September 26). Trump calls NFL kneeling ‘disgraceful,’ disrespectful to veterans http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/09/26/trump-calls-nfl-kneeling-disgraceful-disrespectful-to-veterans.html

Trump has made it clear what he thinks of the NFL players participating on the movement to show their solidarity toward Colin Kaepernick. Trump believes that kneeling is disrespectful to the veterans that fought and died for the U.S. He has even went as far as too call for these players jobs, or at the very least suspension which endangers the 1st amendment which America’s ideology is based upon. This article is very objective. It only seeks to echo what the president has said and report upon it. There is no stance taken on the issue at hand. This article is a good reference for what the president has directly said. I can pull quotes directly from his speech because along with the article there is a video of his statement.

von Spakovsky, H. (2017, September 8). DACA Is Constitutional, as Obama Admitted. Retrieved from http://www.heritage.org/immigration/commentary/daca-unconstitutional-obama-admitted

The DACA program goes against the basis that America bases it’s whole country upon. It skips over the law making process, by bypassing congress’ approval. The author supplying commentary for the executive overreach explains why DACA is unconstitutional and why it provides a dangerous precedent that should not be followed. The article does take side, it doesn’t simply report information it provides an opinion as well as quotes from trusted people in the judicial branch. He backs up Donald Trump’s decision to repeal the program but also says that it can be revised and made better before going through the process of being approved by congress. This article is a strong counterargument that caused me to rethink my own stance and come back with a stronger argument as to why that point of view is still incorrect.

Swain, J.; McCarthy, C. (2017, January 8). Young black men again faced highest rate of US police killings in 2016. Retrieved from https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jan/08/the-counted-police-killings-2016-young-black-men

This article discusses the statistics behind the killing of young black males. It provides percentages of how likely black men are to be killed by police men than any other race. Although this article is heavy in facts and statistics, I can tell that the author of this article has a personal connection to the issue. They use some loaded words that would suggest their personal connection to the issue of the elevated killing rate of young black men by police. I didn’t see any biases within the essay, but I do know the author’s emotional connection to the issue. Although this article will play a small role in writing this essay, it will provide me with a few facts to support the idea of why the NFL national anthem protests arose in the first place which will also tie into Trump and his accusations against the disrespect from football players.

realDonaldTrump. (2017, September 25). The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this! [Tweet]. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/912280282224525312

This tweet refers to the NFlL players kneeling during the national anthem in light of the unjust killing of many unarmed black men by police. Donald Trump condemns these football players and in other tweets regarding the football players he also calls for their jobs and suspension. Trump obviously feels an emotional connection to the issue, but his passion is wrongfully aimed in the wrong direction. This source of evidence will help me strengthen my argument that trump is racist when I draw a comparison of how he talks about the NFL players nonviolently protesting, and the Neo-Nazis violent rally.

Cumming-bruce, S. C. (2017, August 23). U.N. Panel Condemns Trump’s Response to Charlottesville Violence. Retrieved October 09, 2017, from https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/23/world/un-trump-racism-charlottesville.html

In this article quotes from people in the UN are given to provide a counterattack on the statement that Trump made in the wake of the Charlottesville rally that had occurred. The UN panel obviously disagrees with Trump’s statement and has said that it is his job to condemn the Neo-Nazis and not leave any room for interpretation. The language used in the article suggest that it is reporting on what the UN panel has said, but the bias lies in the quotes that are used and which side he more heavily talks about which is the UN condemning Trump’s response to the rally. This will help my argument because it gives me direct quotes from important political figures in power that are against Trump’s leniency toward the Neo-Nazi hate group.

Michael D. Shear And Maggie Haberman. (2017, August 15). Trump Defends Initial Remarks on Charlottesville; Again Blames ‘Both Sides’. Retrieved October 09, 2017, from https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/15/us/politics/trump-press-conference-charlottesville.html

In this article is shows that after his initial remark that failed to condemn the neo-nazis in the Charlottesville rally, her went back for a second statement and defended his first remarks that pinned the blame on both sides because they both displayed violence. I don’t see any bias in the article, it reports on what he says, using various verbs when quoting his exact words in his statement. This article will help me in solidifying the argument that his failure to condemn this hate group effects people of color socially because it furthers ostracizes them from society by showing them that the president is not willing to protect them like he’s supposed to.
