Medium: the New Beast That Actually Makes Me Read
I love Medium. This platform makes me read *and* write despite the fact that I’m a super lazy reader. They truly stick to what they promise to be.
“The perfect place to read and write.”
While I hate the superlative on the tagline, there are some aspects I do love about this place.
- Simple, nice, and neat design. Easy to navigate and great user experience.
- Great content. How lovely, I can find quality articles and stories that pique my interest!
- Being connected with other writers whose articles are of my interest. It’s not hard to find great writers to follow and read every day. I’ve come to find new perspectives and interesting life stories. I’ve only spent a week here and now I’m addicted to it.
- While other places offer too many distractions (post photos, videos, quotes, music, etc), Medium focuses on writing. And thus, its main focus is spreading ideas and stories in words. (I love words.) It proves that simplicity works best.
However, I hope for some improvements:
- I want readers to be able to easily find my posts by categories. Because right now, posts are displayed almost sporadically. It takes more time to find other great contents among the responses they make. The good old comment section is much preferred than having responses as new stories.
- I use mobile app (Android) most of the time and what a shame I can’t highlight contents I like (and show everyone the lines that inspire me). I really like the green highlighter, by the way.
- Some technical issue: although my WiFi works perfectly fine, the “Write here” column doesn’t do justice for automatic save-to-draft function. I once wrote a quite long post; while on it, I was distracted and promptly navigated to another page. I was in agony when I found out that my writing wasn’t saved. (There is no warning as to save it as draft before navigating to another content)
I think that is all and I hope to experience more of this great platform in the future!
