Mount Vernon Goes Back To School

This week our children continued their academic journeys as they went back to school. We want to encourage them as they learn and continue to grow into young leaders. This year, in an effort to increase safety and to build a better foundation for community policing we are sending out our school resource officers to each school in the district. These officers are there to create trust, provide mentorship, and to ensure a safe learning environment for all our children! #SafetyFirst

A New Development Proposed for Wilson Woods Area

Mayor Wallace is proud to announce a partnership with Stagg LLC to renovate the property at 1 Bradford Road with a development that will bring over 125 employees to the City of Mount Vernon. This company, like several others with whom the Mayor is in discussions, recognizes the value Mount Vernon brings to its operations. This is great news for the Wilson Woods area as the building that stands there now has been abandoned for almost a decade.

“This is just the beginning. We are going to bring more businesses to Mount Vernon, period. It’s good for jobs. It’s good for the community. And, it helps ease the burden on the residential taxpayer,” said Mayor Wallace. “We’re excited to work with the Stagg team and hope their success will demonstrate to others that Mount Vernon is open for business.”

Renovations at the site will fully support Mayor Wallace’s #GreenMV initiative as Stagg is set to populate the location with over 50 new trees.

Mayor Wallace and the MVPD meet with MV’s Crossing Guards

This past Friday, we took another step of action in our #SafetyFirst initiative. Our administration met with the City’s crossing guards to address and correct any of the concerns they may have. They are on the frontlines everyday making sure our children get to and from school safely. Their input helps strengthen the operations of our Police Department and thus creates a safer city. This is another addition to our zero tolerance policy. If you are speeding, attempting illegal U-turns, throwing garbage on the street, or breaking the law in any way you will get a ticket. We will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our city and the protection of our residents.

Beautification Continues On 14th Ave Bridge #GreenMV

Have you seen the new floral decorations at our 14th avenue bridge? We are actively communicating with the MTA to make sure our bridges are not only fixed but raise the bar of our quality of life. This is is another step towards making a greener and more beautiful Mount Vernon. #greenmv

Mount Vernon City Hall Shines Yellow For Nation Suicide Prevention Month

The lights that shine on Mount Vernon City Hall will be yellow for the month of September as Mayor André Wallace and the City of Mount Vernon recognize National Suicide Prevention Month.

“The troubling, difficult, and profoundly sad reality is that too many of our loved ones take their own lives or engage in self-destructive behavior. There’s never one single cause. Many factors usually play a part in driving a person to commit suicide. Suicide prevention begins with having the knowledge and the ability to recognize warning signs. If you have concerns about someone you know, don’t remain silent. Seek out help. Resources are available.” — Mayor André Wallace
