Rafa will have the chance to win the Australian Open after 13 years, but he will have the brand new number 2 in the world ahead of him. The Russian smells blood and will seek to ruin another Big Three party, as he already did against Djokovic in the United States.
Rafael Nadal was the only one of the 128 players in the current edition of the Australia Open who had written his name in the tournament’s record: it was in 2009 after defeating Roger Federer in the final.
After 13 years, the Spaniard is still in the fight and will play his sixth final in the first major this Sunday, the first since 2019, and his twenty-ninth in the majors.
Nadal earned that right after ending Matteo Berrettini’s resistance 6–3, 6–2, 3–6, 6–3, in 2 hours and 55 minutes.
It is his first win against a Top10 since he beat Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros last year.
