How to Stop Being Frustrated

Frustration is usually caused by unexpected and unwanted results/situations. When you accidentally spill a cup of coffee or when you are standing in a long line at an amusement park and the ride shuts down right before your turn or if you are really need someone to show up on time and they’re late.

The question to ask then is … Could I have done anything different to change the outcome of this situation?

If yes, fix the problem so it does not happen again. But if it’s an outcome you had no control over, simply let it go. Don’t worry about it. No matter how frustrated you get, it’s not going to solve the problem. As a matter of fact, it will only make the remainder of the day worse.

Here’s something I often remember when I get frustrated. Maybe it’ll help you too.

The size of your happiness is directly proportionate to the size of the problems that frustrate you.

If little things like a spilled cup of coffee get on your nerves and frustrate you, you really don’t have much control over your life. Instead of getting frustrated, just get a new cup of coffee. It’s that simple.

Our attitude, whether good or bad, starts a chain reaction. The only way to stop being frustrated is being more aware of our own attitude. If we find ourselves on the “wrong side” of our attitude, change it. Decide! Decide to be happy. Decide to not get frustrated. Tell yourself that you’re bigger than the situation at hand and it has no power over you. Smile, man! No one and nothing can frustrate you if you don’t allow it to. You control how much and how often you can get frustrated.

Now, I know - all of this seems easy to write. But, is it that easy to implement? Not at the very beginning. It takes time, patience and practice. Do it enough number of times, and you’ll find that it works.

Hope this helps!
