Many of you would say that Pomorie has only two beaches -one on the East and one on the South side, but with what I have noted in the following lines, I hope to convince you that each of the places has its own unique features and is worthy of description and consideration. I would not stop here, reading you will notice that several times I combine beaches in one paragraph … So the places will become even more! The general distinction will serve us as a starting point for the writing to be precise enough. With my presentation I will make you a long walk along the coast of the whole peninsula, we will pay attention to all places in sequence, I will comment mainly on their locations, some of their more important features and I will try to compare them by factors whether they are busy or not. wild, easily or difficult to access, etc. And with the photos I will show you the enchanting beauty of the city and the sea, which since ancient times has been noticed and appreciated by thousands and maybe millions of people — kings and aristocrats, artists, poets, singers, residents and tourists. I hope everyone who has been here will return, and readers who have never come will admire and make holiday plans quickly!

- Our walk will start on the south side of the city. The first stop is on a beach that even most Pomorians do not suspect exists. Under the sunflowers and the steep precipice we find a breakwater and a hidden long, narrow sandy strip that reaches all the way to Sarafovo. Here we can find complete solitude, and enjoy blissful peace.

2. The next location is not more than twenty meters away. Turning off the road, everyone can take a pleasant break from the road with a quick swim in the sea on the concrete platforms. Others would choose to relax in this place by coming to cast their rods in the sea, as it is suitable for fishing here.

3. After the platforms are nestled three places in front of a hotel complex- the beach Euroius, perfect for recreation and sunbathing. They are not the most visited, so the situation is not busy and one can expand as much as he wants, to feel the carefreeness of his sea vacation.

4. Under the abandoned building, which is located immediately after the complex, we find again three small beaches. Each of them is surrounded by vegetation — plum and fig trees, various other shrubs and rocks, thus enhancing the feeling of wild and untouched. Looking at the horizon, the view of the Burgas Bay will make everyone feel really far from the city and its problems.

5. The small secret beach is a place — difficult to access (through the rocks or through a hidden path in the lush vegetation), but unique and magical. It separates the beaches under construction from those of the old campsite “Diana” and will delight anyone who dares to look for it. The space there is very limited, at most for 3–4 people.
If we go a few steps back, we will find ourselves at the gates of the ancient Thracian domed tomb — another magical place. It is part of the cultural and historical heritage of Pomorie.

6. Camping “Diana” is one of the favorite places of Pomorie. With this view, the place is rightly among the favorites. Another advantage is that on the slope above the beach there are separate places for picnics, caravans and tents. So those of you who are not particularly fond of sand, can spend time on the lawns under the shade of trees and at the same time be on the beach.

7. Passing along a hidden path, located between the bushes (at the right end of the beach from the last photo), reveals another nice place for the beach in the area “Krotiria”. Here again you can enjoy more privacy on the wide beach , because there is no high attendance. This does not mean that the beach is not as charming as the others.

8. Entering Pomorie, after the first possible right turn, we find ourselves on the long beach in front of the large hotel complex, which in itself is an amazing sight. With its impressive size and architecture, it transports a person into a luxurious fantasy. Golden sand, water attractions and crystal water are the pearl in its crown. The beach is definitely very busy, visited by tourists and Pomorians, so if you are looking for peace, head to one of the other offers. The hotel has recently adapted with a modern aqua park, which further raises the number of bathing areas.

9. St. George’s neighborhood has two more beaches. Wide stripes, which in most cases are cluttered with towels and umbrellas. They can be reached very easily because they are located next to the bus station and there is enough space for parking. Here is also the beginning of the recently builded alley of Pomorie. It connects the new and the old town and greatly facilitates pedestrians, offering an unforgettable walk along the coast. On the same alley I will mark the next few locations.

10. The first of them is the stepped concrete platform, always pleasant for relaxation. The other plus is that it offers a lot of free space and installed stairs that secure entry into the sea. Here the pavement is suitable for sports activities such as aerobics, yoga, jogging, some strength exercises and many other sports, on the beach.

11. Immediately after the platform is the famous breakwater among the Pomorians the “White pier” — on both sides there is a small sheltered beach, providing access to the vast waters of the sea. The water is almost always calm and tempting for a long swim.

12. Continuing forward, about 500m away, we reach the beach of the 25th Block. It is convenient for people who live or are accommodated in this part of “Svoboda” neighbourhood. Rest from the walk along the promenade and the beach in this place are always pleasant, fishing is comfortable.
13. Advancing along the promenade and entering the old town, we find ourselves on a beach for which there is no analogue. It is practically part of the promenade. Several separate stairs take us to the sea level. There is again a concrete platform, along which, however, are long stone benches. Lying beach people will always be seen on them. The interesting thing here is that in the summer different artists leave their mark on the benches, painting them with beautiful drawings. The palette of colors really lifts the mood and predisposes to take good summer photos. Another thing to pay attention to here are the amazing sunsets that one can enjoy from this place. Swimming or just contemplating, you will be convinced of this statement only if you have been there.

14. The old pier is one of those places where bathing and jumping are generally forbidden. However, most teenagers often break the ban and have fun there. The pier has recently been renovated and secured, becoming a wonderful bridge leading to the depths. It is also the starting point of the boats offering a sea walk — to the lighthouse, to the island of St. Anastasia or on the South Coast. Across the street is the new city art gallery, which, although not in a swimsuit, is worth a visit. It will enrich the vacation with additional cultural flavor. In the background you can see the old fishing port, it is not recommended to jump from it.

15. The next place I will focus on is a favorite of all young people — the jumping platform, known as the “Pearl”. It is a very social and visited place, always lively and sounded by different companies. The water is deep, the bottom clean and safe. There is rarely any flow because it is just behind the port, which encloses and guards this pool. Regardless of the uplifting atmosphere, every jump must be well thought out, the place is unguarded!

16. The beach at the Yavorov rocks deserves special attention. Here our modern literary genius Peyo Yavorov was inspired and created the emblematic works “Kaliopa”, “Armenians”, “Hail” and “Night”. This place is magical to say the least, it is charged with very strong energy and has a deep history. Anyone who spends time there finds it difficult to break away from the small rocky shore. Another plus — which I recently realized. The lamps that are installed illuminate the water quite well in the evening and in this connection the lovers of night bathing that even those who are afraid of dark water will be amazed by the result — you swim in crystal clear water, you see the mussels at the bottom they refract the light and catch the eye, then you look up, there the stars shine … Magic … I don’t know what else one can dream of.

17. We can not miss the next location — DOSO Pomorie (voluntary organization for defense assistance), which is not active, but has firmly established the name. Nowadays here is the base complex of the Pomorie sports club “Cyclone”. The place is a small marina and actually provides us with an extensive platform for jumping with several levels of difficulty and height. For more experienced swimmers I would suggest to cover the distance between “Pearl” and DOSO while swimming, it is not big and will give you the opportunity to take a look at our authentic summer cinema.

18. The “Mussel Beach” stands out as extremely authentic and different from the other beaches. What is special here is that instead of on sand, one has to lie on a pavement of countless black mussels. I do not recommend it for lovers of soft comfort, but I guarantee that the experience will be remembered. At first it will roar, walking and rolling will be painful, but then it gets used and even becomes pleasant. And not only that — many people would say that it is even useful, because the sharp tips of the mussels fall on all acupuncture points on the feet and body and actually massage them. In addition, under the water here lies a unique beauty — a reef of rocks, on which life boils — a variety of algae and marine life, will delight anyone who looks with a pair of water goggles. The Mussel beach is located at the base of the cultural and heritage monument “Ensemble of Old Pomorie Houses”, and next to it we are looking forward to the latest acquisition of the town of Pomorie — the fishing port. Bathing is strictly forbidden there, but one must take the time to walk on it and the park, sit on the benches and look at the sea.

19. A new addition to the list is the beach, which is formed at the breakwater, which was recently built at the end of the Mussel Beach. It is not crowded with visitors and provides direct access to the same underwater reef as the Mussel Beach. Another plus is that according to the tales of old Pomorians, there is a path leading to the lighthouse. Even if you are an experienced swimmer, please take it with the utmost caution. The beach falls just below the ancient temple “Transfiguration”, emblematic of the Greek neighbourhood. Although there is no direct access between the beach and the church, according to the latest rumors, a park is to be built there. I strongly hope that this project will be implemented to complete the list of magical Pomorie places.

20. From now on our walk will continue along the East Coast of Pomorie, where in fact are the most visited beaches in the city. They are also a cause for pride because they carry the Blue Flag award, an eco-label awarded for the purity and quality of water in 2014. In this regard, quite logically our first stop is the Sailor’s pier and the “First Beach” — definitely highly preferred and visited. It is very spacious — long and wide, with a paid and free area, has a playground for beach sports. Here is the base of the sailing club “Pomorie”, which provides a corridor for all kinds of water sports at the beginning of the beach. In an interview, one of the most prominent athletes from the club, Veselin Nanev, shared some information about the winds. The prevailing morning winds are from the West until noon. Then it turns East, Southeast, which is actually the famous sea breeze. About 18–19h. The wind is falling. During the months of August and September and October it is best suited for sailing, surfing and kitesurfing. In May, June and July the wind is generally weaker.

21. This photo is from the end of the Sailor pier. My friends and I call this place “Pool” and it is “our place”. However, everything that can be said about it applies to any other pier. Such places are formed everywhere. Although inland, it is shallow and rocky and due to its proximity to the breakwater, the water is clear and calm. It is suitable for diving, spearfishing, because under the water again reveals a picturesque reef with many breathtaking views.

26. Crossing the pier, we find ourselves on the beach “Pegs”. Most Pomorians know the beach with this name, because years ago there were wooden pegs on the shore (they are still there and can be seen at low tide). They are part of the construction of a wooden-stone wall, protecting the narrow shoreline between the sea and the small salt lake, which currently does not exist. Although they are now just history, the pegs leave an eternal memory of themselves, giving the name to the attractive and peaceful beach.
27. Favorite place — beach “ The Pump”. This photo shows us an amazing sea view. I’m sure everyone is amazed by this seabed, and without realizing it, they’ve already said “WOW.” Among the weeds there is a cool wooden bar, which fills the atmosphere with positive vibrations from the moment it appears, creates a feeling of simple beach life and carefree. The stone wall, which can be seen in the photo, creates a calm space in the shallows, protects from strong excitement and is definitely very suitable for children.

It is in the military sanatorium that we find another interesting place that deserves our attention — the “Egyptian beach”. It is not, however, a real beach with no access to the sea. The way they call it is interesting, but even more interesting is the place itself. It is one of the possibilities for mud therapy offered in the sanatorium.

32. Advancing significantly, we reached the “Black Sands beaches” — again, I combine in one paragraph a few similar beaches. Their peculiarity and name comes from the sand. It has an unusual color because of the iron oxides it contains. Here I would also note that during the day it is normal for the sand to be heated to such an extent by the sun that it is unbearable to walk barefoot on it. These beaches are located along the end of the paved road — or the place better known as the “End of the world”. They are easily accessible by car or bicycle and have a rich accommodation — bungalows and all amenities such as bars and restaurants.

I am absolutely sure that I have won your attention, dear readers, that you have felt the magic of every place I have shown you and that you do not want this walk to end, but here we have reached the final stop of the guide. Despite being assigned the last place in a row, “The Strip” is the most captivating, wild and untouched by man beach in Pomorie. It is part of the protected area Pomorie Lake and in its essence is a sandy hair, 6 km long (the longest on the southern Black Sea coast). It connects the towns of Pomorie and Aheloy with a pedestrian eco trail, separates the lake from the sea and thus we have two different beach opportunities. From the lake, anyone can visit the designated places where to get estuarine mud and do mud treatment yourself. From the sea, visitors are mostly nudists who enjoy the complete freedom provided by the wild beach.

34. “Salt Museum” is one of the sights of the city, there we find another of the atypical beaches. The place has no access to the sea, but to the salt pans themselves. One can lay a towel on the grassy areas or on the wooden stands, smear oneself with mud, bake it in the sun and thus cure one’s ailments. On the side of the lake (where bathing is not allowed), along the shore one can position oneself and observe the inhabitants of the nature reserve “Pomorie Lake”. An interesting fact is that in the autumn of 2019 the reserve happened to be a stop for rest from the migration route of a very large flock of pink flamingos. If that’s not enough, anyone can visit the Salt Museum itself during the day to get in touch with the historical livelihood of the Anhialians.

35. SBR-NK EAD, Pomorie branch or in short “Mud Baths” is the next atypical place for bathing. There is no sea here, but we find the “Salt Pool”, which is full of healing rap water from the lake. In it one can swim, bathe or take part in the aerobic activities organized by the institution. The place is very suitable for initial movement after injuries, because in the water the earth’s gravity is eliminated, but not only — spending time in it, everyone feels the beneficial effects of the healing water on their body.

The idea for the project was born by accident. While I was on the beach one day in June, I thought about how beautiful our places are. That is why I decided to take on the task of marking, photographing and describing the places on our remarkable coast and so to make a gift to the people of Pomorie, but not only to them, also to anyone who is in love with the sea and would like to to get to know my hometown. I am glad to have the opportunity to share this guide with you. I am grateful to everyone who shared positive feedback about my idea and took part in its implementation. Here I want to add an even more exciting idea that struck me last month. I decided that “Beachguider: Pomorie” is just the beginning! I officially announce that in the summer of 2020, I will invest my time and energy in the preparation of a “Detailed Bulgarian beach guide”, which will be accompanied by an active voluntary campaign to clean the Bulgarian beaches!
Showing all these beautiful places, I would like to draw attention to some very important and serious topics!
First of all, dear readers, keep in mind that most of the beaches are unguarded. Despite the attractive smooth sea, please bathe with increased vigilance, especially if there are children! Also pay attention to the protected areas, because the sea is not only a favorite, but also dangerous. Strictly follow the rescuers’ recommendations regarding the condition of the sea and bathing in it.
I also want to appeal to nature conservation. Please do not destroy the vegetation and do not dump your waste on the beaches and in the sea. In this regard, I share with you something that I have imposed as a principle and I do constantly: in addition to my own garbage, to collect at least as much recklessly left waste, because nature makes us happy and we ourselves are obliged to protect it!
