Taming My “Followers” Addiction
Setting a 1k followers limit
The more I write and engage, the more I feel good. And the more that bell shows numbers, I get more mad. I want to keep doing this over and over again.
Well, my aim in this platform has changed into making writing a career. I may pause Medium when I reach 1K followers with articles not more than 50, and focus on growing in other writing platforms.
Why don’t I start now?
Personally, a 1K followers profile is enough to apply for any general writing job, plus it gives you that credibility thing, you know?
So, I noticed writers here with over 110K followers, and are still growing. And I was like: when will it be enough? That’s when a voice I named logic came to whisper in my mind: nothing can ever be enough my son. You have to set a limit in some things. If you don’t, you’ll keep chasing the high (ahem, dopamine) until you die and continue it in the after afterlives.
It is not wise to live on the MPP or tips alone and shun other things you could be doing. Search the laziest thing on the internet, you’ll still get a response. Try how to earn writing money — it will correct you and you’ll be able to smile again, simple.
I know I said I’m fed up with New Year resolutions. Hear me out on this one. If you came across a section where I mentioned that: I’m not giving up on setting goals entirely, then no more explanations are needed. By having goals, you will not only exist, you’ll leave a mark.
Since we need to maintain a healthy balance in everything we do, I thought to use the SMART technique we got taught in grade 10 — which I recalled later on in my life. I know you’ll argue because you don’t remember.
When the time comes for pausing my Medium account, I will write a story informing you guys of that. I will also let you know where you can catch up with me. In instances where I cannot do this, I promise to do so when I can. Leaving someone without a lousy excuse or text can sting.
If I return to Medium after some time, I’ll post a story about that.
