I think Sanders himself would disagree with little here. His whole campaign was about us not him. And unlike Obama, who occassionally said similar things, Sanders understood the President’s power was directly related to his/her popular support.
(Assuming that Trump ever had any true populist goals, the media’s constant disparagement of him and his agenda has been to assure that he would never have the popular support to accomplish anything that the plutocrats objected to.)
The election of Sanders could have been a huge turning point in modern US history and a reversal of ugly trends that predate Reagan but which he (Reagan) greatly accelerated.
