Holy shit, what a mean-spirited, lazy, bad-faith article. Am honestly blown away a little.
For starters, no: Pete’s Medicare for All Who Want It is actually more popular among Americans than Bernie’s straight-up Medicare-For-All. People inherently don’t trust the government, and the idea of making people give up their current insurance for another one understandably gives people cold feet. Pete’s plan — which he’s been consistent on since day one, btw — would involve making the case for why people should switch into a government health care, rather than forcing them into it from the get-go. Pete’s plan’s got 90% approval from democrats, 70% overall. That is what I’d call comically popular and unifying.
And why exactly is Andy Beshear considered courageous but Pete isn’t? That guy was way more moderate, way more afraid to take a stand on major issues than Pete. Is it because you’re not being honest in this article? That’s probably it, right?
