Design Practice — Instagram Redesign
This is one of the design practice I did on my own to practice some UX design skills with Sketch.
Problem: users are not clear of the instruction of sending temporary photos because 1). the function is not clearly presented in Instagram so not many people know about it. 2). instruction of how to use this specific function is unclear which makes people hestiate to use.
- First Design Prototype

How it works? Simply click on the photo and hit recall to recall it after view.
This prototype only changed a minor feature. Instead of telling the senders that they could send a temporary photo before they write a new message, this design allows the user to touch the photo after sending and then make it temporary. It is design this way because people may change their mind at the last minute and this design gives the users this option as well as easier to operate and understand compare to the original design in Instagram.
2. Second Prototype

How it works? When the user click on the image icon to send photos, the sending button will be associated with sending regular/temporary options (click to switch), and the text box will also have a message to tell the users which type of photo they are sending.
3. A Quick Critique Session
I presented my solution to a couple of my UX friends and asked for a quick critique. From their comments, I decided to make some changes to my design. Most people like the first solution, because the second solution had too much text and the switching may cause confusion or complication. And in the first design, most people thought the word “recall” can be very confusing, so I changed the word to “Make temporary” and also made it to be the first option displayed in the option bar.
