I see this often in the nonprofit sector. I hear people tell me they want to start a nonprofit. I don’t hear so many say “I want to end hunger” or “I want to cure cancer” — or most importantly, “I want to work my ass off for low pay to make the world a better place.”

But that last part? Is what it’s really all about. And looking back over 30 years in the sector, that’s the part that lasts.
