Principles of Media Introduction
I’m Cynthia McArthur, but a lot of people just call me “C” or “Cyn.” I’m a sophomore Communications and Psychology major. I am pursuing Communications and Visual Arts because of how much I love telling other people’s stories. I hope to one day use my knowledge to share the stories that would otherwise never be heard, and to better represent individuals within various cultures through various forms of media.
Media makes me think of the various ways people can communicate with each other, including blogs, social media like Instagram and Facebook, videos, pictures, television, magazines, music, and various other forms. In contemporary society, it is the most common way people share stories, experiences, and the things they are passionate about. “The media” is the blanket termed used to describe a platform used to share information to large audiences. The Media includes news channels, publishers, advertisers, magazines, and radio. The media plays a huge role in connecting people and sharing information across boundaries that otherwise couldn’t be crossed. Media contributes to the culture in various ways. It unifies people, but it also divides. It brings people with similar ideas together, but it can also stir up conflict between good friends. The media plays a large role in shaping common ideas across various cultures in 2018, whether those ideas are focused on politics, art, travel, food, or anything else.
